The wizards of Sky Magic have long shunned those of the lower “Dirt Magic.” Senga, a curious girl whose father is one of the most prestigious Sky Wizards, begins to question this long-standing prejudice as her eyes are opened to a world much broader than she ever imagined. Together with Iomhair, a talented young friend and magician from school, Senga finds herself entwined in a quest to discover the truth behind the magic, and, in the process, discovers much about her past, her potential, and her new feelings for Iomhair. Magic of Earth and Sky edition by Briana Rae Laura Schuff Amy Schuff Roper Children eBooks Reviews
This is an amazing book! I highly recommend picking it up for a nice summer read!
Rating this as an adult but in behalf my teenaged self. This is a book I would have loved as a teenager because I was super into fantasy books and books about magic, especially those that had strong female leads (I was kind of a nerdy teenager, I admit). Even as an adult this was a good read. It was clean, fun, and unique. A quick read at 115 pages or so, but worth your time.
While the writing is somewhat simplistic and often big decisions, actions, or long stretches of time are glossed over this is still a really entertaining read. The character development is inelegantly handled but it is there and flows smoothly through the story. The lessons learned and maturity gained by the characters actually makes sense in the events described. I felt like I knew the people and I genuinely cared about what was happening to them.
This book is very rough around the edges and almost crudely told in places but the story is still a good one and I'd be interested to see more from this author.
